Why do we mistreat, and why can't we respect animals as the living and sentient beings they are? Don't they deserve it because of the situation we ourselves have put them in? Whether this animal is for eating, whether this one is disgusting because it eats the trash (that we ourselves) generate, whether this animal is dirty, whether this animal no longer fits in my house, whether it misbehaves... Thousands of prejudices run through the minds of most people, and they end up physically and mentally mistreating and harming animals.
Don't be like that. Spread empathy for the animals we ourselves have disadvantaged with this design by our artists.
